Day 9, March 24, 2016

A day of doddling about.  Then off to the ferry we went for a lovely 3 and a half hour sail between North and South Islands. It rained over night but cleared up in the morning.

The ferry terminal was only a block from our hotel, making it very easy. We were a bit delayed getting on board. The rule is that passengers have to leave their cars and are not allowed back into them until they get into port on the other side. Sadly, just as we were getting out Rhys lost his mind and I forgot to grab my backpack with stuff in it for them to do.

We spent the next three and a half hours sitting up in the cabin. We all took naps, and the boys managed to sleep for two of the three hours. We got a snack as well. Between food and a nap Rhys was much happier.

We arrived in Picton after the journey through an absolutely beautiful sound. It took about half an hour to debark and after that it was a straight shot to Tony's house. Tony is the reason we took this trip at this time. He is a friend from Denver, who is originally from here. He and his wife Mandy and their son moved back here for a couple of years so we took the opportunity to intrude and pay him a visit.

Tony's father, Dean, had cooked up a fabulous curry. We had some local wine, great company and dinner as a way to unwind after a tedious day. They also introduced us to a new game, Coup, which we will definitely be buying.
