Day 7, March 22, 2016

Today we cleaned up our lovely cottage and headed to Wellington, New Zealand. We hit the road at 0900 on the nose. We re-traced some of our steps from the first day and then hit new territory. This was the longest day of travel.

This looks like Wyoming.

We drove through a part of New Zealand that was not lush and green. It reminded us of Wyoming, though the odd fern did spoil the effect. About half way through the five hour drive we saw the New Zealand Army Museum. While the boys and Tracy went to the Kid's HQ I toured the exhibits. They have some great collections and the exhibits were well laid out.

The boys were in hog heaven.
After the break we got back on the road. Our only goal was to get to Wellington and find our hotel. We had to take a slight detour when we saw the U. S. Marine memorial sign.

Camp Russel. This was the home of the 1st and 2nd MARDIVs during WWII.
The exhibits.
One of the camps was on the green section. Also, the Marines got to hump all over these hills.
After our quick visit we got back on the road and into town. We got right to our hotel, which was easy to find and very very difficult to get into.

A full moon over Wellington harbor.

We walked down the pier and found a fantastic seafood restaurant. This was the best meal we've had since we got here.

Some artwork down by the pier.
We headed back to the hotel and Tracy and the boys went to the pool while I updated this blog.
