UK 2024 - March 17th, Nottingham and Arrival in Spain

The morning of the 17th we woke up at a reasonable time, grabbed some coffee and bacon baps and got on a train for Nottingham. It was a five hour ride south to the city of lead. This is the part of the trip that Rhys was most looking forward to. More than anything he wanted to go to Warhammer World.

Our train was on time and after a bit of a death march up a steep hill with our bags, we split up. The ladies went off to tour the caves under the remains of Nottingham castle while Rhys and hiked along the canal, three miles, to Warhammer World.

The long boats on the canal.

The view from on top of castle hill.

The castle has been slighted, meaning torn down, but there are a couple of sections of walls left.

Caves.

More caves.

Hey! Look! A cave!

The inside of a cave.

The "oldest" inn in the UK. (actually just the sign for it)

Signage for Castle Rock.

A model of what the castle looked like when it still existed.

They had an autism section in the museum.

While the ladies did cultural things, Rhys and I enjoyed a visit to wargames disney land.

Slap some shoulder pads on the lad and he has the physique for it.

They have an FV432 that they have modified and painted up to be a Space Marine Rhino.

A great housekeeping shot in a larger battle.

The fight below the idyllic mountain landing pad.

These dioramas are huge.

The gallery was closed to change out some of the exhibits so we didn't get to see the full splendor of the museum, but there was still a lot to see.

This is a gaming table in the gaming hall. Anyone can play on it.

Another gaming table.

Another diorama
We were hungry so we went to Bugman's bar and grabbed some food and cider.

Rhys and Robin Hood. This statue is in front of the castle.

We all met up at the hotel and turned right around and went back out for dinner. Tracy had her heart set on Nando's, afro-Portuguese chicken. The first one we went to was running out of food and had a wait so we walked five minutes to the other location which had food and a table.

We found a closed Warhammer store. Much smaller than Warhammer world but he still wanted to go in.

Meanwhile, in Spain, Owyn had finally arrived in Spain after a painful flight to the UK and a easy flight to Madrid.

Most of the way down on the right, flashing hand signals for some reason.

Owyn (right) and a friend? He didn't know anyone when he started the trip.
